When I got back to San Antonio last 2008, I was excited to this place. Before we'd just pass by the area fill with untrimmed grass and coconut. I'm not sure if this is a private property or a public area, but It made me think "why can't local government make the most out of these natural and man made wonders within the island?" Hindi ba nila alam kung gano ka adik ang mga tao sa picture? Sites like this are worth more than they think! If only they can imagine the powers of media, internet and facebook! Hindi lang makakapag attract ng attention, this could also invite intrigue to others that have no idea, di ba? Plus! Haven't they heard of loboc river cruise? ( of course, I have no idea if the stories about the crocodiles are true. pero that's another story. ) So imagine my disappointment when I got back last 2009 and I can't find the area again! It's as if more than a hundred years passed by. It's just sad, because I was really hoping to get another shot of that place or that River. Then, I can proudly say I saw the heart of the island ;)
PS. Side comment, my cousin told me the place still stands, hmm.. maybe we just passed by a different road when i took this. I really hope she's right ;)

When I was younger, there were no pier nor ports in our province. We'd take the loooooongest ride of our life. So I imagine my surprise when I heard the news! They're building airports and pier within the island. Whoooh! That's a big step! Having ports like these would mean more people and products coming in. More tourist means business opportunities! When I got back to Samar after college, I have imagined so many changes in the island. I was really amazed at how things have changed ~ beginning with the electricity. But when I saw the pier, i was shocked to see that after 1 year as promised, it's still not fully finished. What do you expect from the government? hmm... ( Sorry, ang tibak side ng UP lumalabas.. hehehe ) It's only after another year when I came back that we saw a greater difference. Hey, it's better late than never. I'm just waiting for the final day when this pier would be fully functional.
Of course, eventually, I dream of a bigger opportunity in this island. Not because I have political concerns :p but I wish people would aim higher and look at the things in a bigger picture ;) Back when I was a kid, my mother would always tell me that if only other Filipinos and foreigners would see the beauty of the Island (Puro), they’d stay here longer. If only we have enough cash flow she’d invest on this place. Yes, true enough. I believe that out of all the places that I have travelled in Philippines, there are very few comments, pictures or T.V. features here in SAMAR. Some even ask me if the place really existed! Duh?!
Actually, there are many wonderful things about this side of the country; our local government just has to highlight them. Younger generations tend to be attracted to beaches. Why not highlight our white sands!? We are definitely at par with Boracay’s white sand, if I must say so. We also have the most delectable dishes! Why not boast of our unique taste and local brand?! We’re definitely one of the best cooks! In terms of famous figure, while GENSAN hails PACMAN’s story from rags to riches, SAMAR does boast of Boy Abunda’s articulate communication and social skills. VISIBILITY ~ this is all we really need. As for me, after being nagged for more than 2years by my parents, I was finally able to come up with a website for the resort. Yep, the all around maid was able to finish things in spite of her busy schedule. All photos are taken by me and my sister. All menu layouts and brochures are designed and created by yours truly. ;) To cut things short, having a website made us a little more visible and searchable. But lo and behold, while my mom was proud of this site, I still received some ‘room for improvement’ comments. Google can’t search us! Huwat? So I dragged my ass in front of a pc, typed in ‘EWP Island Beach Resort’ and viola! First thing that came into screen was a wiki map link - http://wikimapia.org/3397407/E-W-P-Beach-Resort-San-Nicolas-San-Antonio-NS Not bad! At least that’s a start. So to make things a little bit interesting, I updated the link with most of the stuff here and added our website. Tadah! We’re now listed! I know things will pick up soon hopefully when I start the fan page or join the group. But for now, I’ll just leave this as is. The maid has to do some errands and finish up some work for her part time job and preps for the up coming anniversary of our sister store (ROOFDECK). Ciao for now! Shameless plug – any body who wants to avail of the design and layout services just PM me. This blog serves as added information for those who wants to visit Northern Samar. I’m writing this down not as a local but as the daughter of two locals who dared to travel the seas to the city and back. My thoughts and ideas might be limited to what is shared and what I have personally encountered in the past 20+ years that I have visited the place. I’ll try my best to show pictures of the place before and after we have introduced the resort. =) So sit back and relax, this might take some time. ^_0 xoxox Wee This was taken 4 years ago, just accross my lola's nipa hut back in San Nicolas, Northern Samar.
Back then, we would go around the Philippines just to witness a wonderful site just like this. Who would have thought that you can find this back Home? Sometimes, we look too far ahead that we forget to look what's right in front of us. Something that others would consider worth more than that second glance ;) |
